LOUNGE 8
Vana Posti 8 / 631 4812 / www.lounge8.ee
In a city now filled with swanky lounge bars, this is the original. It remains a stayer thanks to its quality and integrity and the local-berry-spiked mojitos. The food is simple but always just right. There’s less of an ‘über-trendy’ attitude here than at the competition, and it makes a relaxed though refined place to chill before a night in the clubs.
HOLLYWOOD
Vana Posti 8 / 627 4770 / www.clubhollywood.ee
More relationships have probably started here than at any other nightclub in Estonia. Hollywood, love it or hate it, attracts as many locals as foreigners with its perfected formula of great sounds, theme nights (Wednesday’s Ladies Night is always packed), and a blend of retro sensibility with modern grooves. Cavernous in size and attracting a very mixed crowd, it covers enough bases to please just about any clubber.
ANGEL
Sauna 1 / 641 6880 / www.clubangel.ee
The city’s premier gay nightclub also has a superb restaurant upstairs that stays open all night – clubbers of all persuasions end up there to satisfy late-night munchies. The club attracts a mixed crowd of gay-friendly clubbers who just like to let their hair down (or don a wig) and have a blast.
HORISONT RESTAURANT & BAR
Tornimäe 3 / 624 4444 / www.swissotel.com
Sure, the restaurant on the 30th floor of the Swissotel is top-class, but it’s the corner bar that’s the true prize-winner here – a great place to come for a sundowner. Boasting the best views of Tallinn, superb cocktails, snacks and an atmosphere as relaxing as the décor is striking, this is by far the best spot for a drink in the city.
No 99
Sakala 3 / 668 8781 / www.no99.ee
Not only will you find some of the most progressive theatre performances here, but on Friday and Saturday nights, the downstairs bar turns into an intimate jazz club, the kind you usually see in movies. Creditable local bands do the business most nights, making for good vibes and a civilized night out.
CAFÉ MOSKVA
Vabaduse väljak 10 / 640 4694 / www.moskva.ee
There’s been a café Moskva at this spot, right on the central Freedom Square, almost uninterrupted since 1937 and it’s still a major force on the Tallinn scene. People come here to see and be seen, enjoy posh cocktail culture and partake in the excellent concerts and parties which happen on weekend evenings upstairs.
CLUB VON ÜBERBLINGEN
Madara 22 / 660 8805 / www.uberclub.ee
A late addition to Tallinn’s club scene, this one made its mark by picking up where rave parties left off but adding, as the name might suggest, mega doses of glamour and wrapping the lot in a lush velvet coat of exclusivity. Just out of the town centre, this club attracts an up-for-it crowd of all ages and aims to host the most ‘happening’ club events in town.
